DOST-PAGASA, JAMSTEC Team Up to Advance Monsoon and Rainfall Research
DOST-PAGASA conducted the ceremonial signing of the Joint Research Agreement (JRA) on Monsoon Experiment in the Republic of the Philippines with the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC), alongside discussions on collaborative research activities on monsoon and precipitation in key areas of the Philippines.
The signing was led by Dr. Nathaniel T. Servando, Administrator of DOST-PAGASA, and Dr. Satoru Yokoi, Senior Researcher of JAMSTEC, together with Dr. Marcelino Q Villafuerte II and Dr. Joseph Q. Basconcillo. The activity was held with support from the Philippine Meteorological Society (PMS) and the MonsoonWatch-PH Project, funded by the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD).
The JRA aims to strengthen research collaboration between DOST-PAGASA and JAMSTEC, particularly in advancing the understanding of monsoon mechanisms and rainfall characteristics over the Philippines. These collaborative efforts are expected to contribute to the continuous improvement of weather monitoring, prediction, and forecasting services in the country.
