DOST-PAGASA Joins 2025 RSTW SOCCSKSARGEN and HANDA Pilipinas Rehiyon Dose
Highlighting the crucial role of science and early warning systems in building resilient communities, DOST-PAGASA participated in the 2025 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) SOCCSKSARGEN and HANDA Pilipinas Rehiyon Dose events, held from August 27 to 29, 2025 in General Santos City.
Present were DOST Secretary Dr. Renato Solidum Jr.; Undersecretary for Regional Services, Engr. Sancho Mabborang; Assistant Secretaries Maria Teresa De Guzman and Diana Ignacio; DOST XII Regional Director, Engr. Sammy Malawan, and local officials, government partners, and key stakeholders. DOST-PAGASA officials in attendance included Administrator Dr. Nathaniel T. Servando, Deputy Administrator for Operations and Services Engr. Roy A. Badilla, and Weather Services Chief of Mindanao PAGASA Regional Services Division, Ms. Anianita R. Fortich.
In his message during the HANDA Pilipinas event, Dr. Servando reaffirmed PAGASA’s commitment to harnessing science and technology to enhance weather and climate services and to help communities become smarter, safer, and more sustainable.
Dr. Servando also presented PAGASA’s recent initiatives in Mindanao, emphasizing better communication with communities and stakeholders. He highlighted radar upgrades in Hinatuan and Digos City, the deployment of X-band radars, the Cagayan de Oro River Basin Flood Forecasting and Warning System, and impact-based forecasting through the Multi-Hazard Impact-Based Forecasting and Early Warning System for the Philippines Project.
During the RSTW event, themed “Building Smart and Sustainable Communities,” the focus was on how science, technology, and innovation can transform industries, strengthen communities, and create opportunities that improve everyday lives.
As part of the showcase, DOST-PAGASA’s exhibit featured its latest technologies and innovations, Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials, and the PAGASA National Hydro-Met Observing Network (PANaHON) interactive platform.
