SOCMEDCON 2026: Shaping a Better Online Presence
In the interest of delivering improved weather, climate, and astronomical information to the country, DOST-PAGASA held its first-ever Social Media Conference (SOCMEDCON) at the Amihan Conference Room, PAGASA Central Office, and via Zoom on June 29–30, 2026.
Deputy Administrator Dr. Marcelino Q. Villafuerte II, division chiefs, social media managers, and representatives came together to discuss platform management, content production, and social media policies.
BETTER WITH CONTENT
Marketing expert and DOST Branding Consultant Dr. Dave Centeno engaged participants through discussions and workshops on branding, marketing, and the strategic communication of the agency's products and services.
Participants explored better storytelling and messaging techniques to connect with a wider audience, including key sectors and demographics. The sessions also highlighted opportunities to strengthen science communication and enhance the agency's current social media content.
POLICY REVIEW
Social media managers and coordinators participated in the review of the agency's existing social media policies. Discussions focused on improving and revising policies related to regular content, workflow, security, and content guidelines.
With the agency's growing social media audience and its Facebook page nearing 8 million followers, revisiting existing policies, enhancing content, and expanding its presence across other platforms have become key priorities. These efforts aim to further strengthen DOST-PAGASA's delivery of timely and accurate information to the nation.
