DOST-PAGASA spearheads the Inter-DRRM Taskforce Convergence Zone (ITCZ) Corner 2.0
In celebration of the 161st Year of National Meteorological Service and the 76th World Meteorological Day, the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA) proudly announces the return of the Inter-DRRM Taskforce Convergence Zone (ITCZ) Corner 2.0. Anchored on this year’s World Meteorological Day theme, “Observing Today, Protecting Tomorrow,” ITCZ Corner 2.0 features a dynamic two-day exhibit on 25–26 March 2026 at the PAGASA Central Office grounds, Quezon City.
Following its successful debut in 2025, the second edition (v2.0) of ITCZ Corner brings together local government units (LGUs) from Metro Manila and key stakeholders in the disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) sector. The said exhibit generally aims to strengthen linkages and collaborations among DRRM partners and organizations, and bridge the gaps between scientific knowledge and community-level action.
The key objectives of the ITCZ Corner are as follows:
- Promote inter-agency convergence. Bringing together various agencies and stakeholders promotes a culture of cooperation and collaborations, streamlines efforts and ensures coordinated and proactive approach during disaster emergencies.
- Showcase innovations and technologies. Innovations and technological breakthroughs will be showcased allowing other LGUs and agencies to benchmark and/or adopt new and emerging technologies on local early warning and DRRM services at the local level.
- Understand early warning services. Some presentations on early warning technologies and operational services will be made during the exhibit to improve public’s understanding on various early warning technologies and services thus allowing them to take preventive actions in order to reduce human and economic losses.
- Enhance disaster preparedness and response. Sharing of best practices on DRRM from various LGUs and agencies provides an avenue to enhance preparedness and response actions to combat the effects of various hydro-meteorological hazards.
- Raise public awareness. The ITCZ corner serves as a powerful platform to raise public awareness on various hydrometeorological hazards, early warning and DRRM services thereby allowing them for the safety and well-being of the communities.
The event is open to the public and aims to raise awareness on the critical role of weather and climate services in safeguarding lives and communities, while fostering stronger partnerships among government agencies, LGUs, and DRRM stakeholders.
