DOST-PAGASA Marks Typhoon and Flood Awareness Week Observance

As the country observes Typhoon and Flood Awareness Week (TFAW) from June 14 to 20, 2026, DOST-PAGASA calls on all Filipinos to strengthen preparedness against hazards brought by tropical cyclones and other extreme weather events, while staying informed about evolving climate conditions and new digital innovations that support resilience.

The annual observance, mandated under Presidential Proclamation No. 1535 series of 2008, serves as a nationwide platform to raise public awareness on the impacts of tropical cyclones, floods, and other weather-related hazards. This year’s theme, “Bagyo, Baha, Maghanda Tayo!”, highlights the importance of science-based preparedness, early warning systems, and community action in reducing disaster risks amid a changing climate. Throughout the TFAW, a series of activities will be conducted including Kapit-Kaalaman Conversations: Sharing Typhoon and Flood Risk Awareness, MAAGAP (Maagang Aksiyon at Akmang Gawin Ayon sa Panahon) Seminar on community-based typhoon and flood preparedness, and public information campaigns on social media, designed to promote greater understanding of weather and climate hazards and appropriate preparedness measures.

PANaHON mobile application

As part of its commitment to modernizing weather and climate services, DOST-PAGASA formally launches the PAGASA National Hydro-Meteorological Observing Network (PANaHON) Mobile Application, a new digital platform designed to provide greater accessibility to hydrometeorological information and observing network data.

The PANaHON mobile app features an interactive map with near real-time weather data. Users can receive timely notifications directly on their mobile device including tropical cyclone bulletins, thunderstorm and heavy rainfall warnings, and flood advisories. With the app's location feature, alerts are received relevant to the areas of interest. Hourly forecasts and 5-day weather outlook feature allow users to check the latest weather in their pinned locations and so they can plan and decide ahead.

As the Philippines remains among the world's most vulnerable prone countries, DOST-PAGASA emphasizes that preparedness is a shared responsibility among government agencies, local communities, institutions, and individual citizens. The agency is committed to continue to fulfill its mandate and advance its mission of protecting lives, livelihoods, and properties through public awareness initiatives, timely weather and climate advisories, and innovative digital tools.
